Detailed Course Outline

Learning Objectives:

(Weeks 1-2) Objective: By the completion of these chapters, the student will know the significance of Barber history as well as the laws applied to Licensed Barbers.

(Weeks 2-4) Objective: By the completion of these chapters, students will have reviewed human anatomy and also know the preparation steps for any barber service provided by a student barber.

(Weeks 4-12) Objective: By the completion of these chapters, the student will have gained full knowledge and experience of various cutting, shaving, and prep techniques for male grooming.

(Weeks 4-15) Objective: By the completion of these chapters, students will learn the importance of proper safety, sanitation, infection control, and the proper way to clean your station and equipment, as well as being able to define Anatomy, Physiology, and Histology. Students will also be able to detect hair, scalp, and skin disorders.

Learning Objectives:

(Weeks 1-4) Objective: By the completion of these chapters, students will have gained proper learning skills and professional key points such as time management, and proper consultation.

(Weeks 15-22) Objective: By the completion of these chapters, students will be able to perform various hair treatments, facial manipulations, shaving techniques, and hair cutting techniques with a minimum of 75% accuracy.

(Weeks 30-36) Objective: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be prepared to pursue rewarding careers in the barbering industry and demonstrate the skills, professionalism, and business knowledge necessary to establish and manage their own barbershop.

(Weeks 22-30) Objective: By the completion of these chapters, students will have gained skill in women hair cutting, coloring, and basic manicuring techniques, and other important terminology.

Important Course Information

Purpose:

D.S. Barber Academy trains students to become licensed barbers in compliance with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). All students are expected to adhere to these rules to ensure a safe, professional, and effective learning environment.

Program Length:

1000 Total clock hours.

Workload:

Vocabulary and Questions after each Chapter, Workbook pages due Thursday of each week.

Testing:

Test will be held each Friday over both the Theory and Practical information covered during that week’s lessons.

Make-Up Work:

Students are responsible for arranging make-up work with their instructor and must be completed within 2 weeks of the students return.

Code of Conduct:

Treat instructors, staff, fellow students, and clients with courtesy and respect at all times. No fighting, threats, harassment, or discrimination of any kind. No falsification of timecards, attendance records, or client services. Possession or use of alcohol, illegal drugs, or weapons on school premises is prohibited. Cell phones must be silenced in class, and personal calls should be held for breaks or lunch.

Dress Code/Professional Appearance:

Students must wear the Academy issued uniform, closed toe shoes, and maintain professional personal hygiene. Hair must be clean and groomed. No excessive jewelry or clothing that may interfere with safety or services.

Attendance:

Students are expected to attend all scheduled hours of instruction. Minimum attendance requirement is 75% of scheduled hours to remain in satisfactory progress. Students absent 30 consecutive days without an approved Leave of Absence (LOA) will be automatically terminated per Texas regulations.

Leave of Absence (LOA):

Request for LOA must be submitted in writing, signed and dated, stating the reason for leave, and expected return date. Must not exceed 30 days.

Tardiness & Absences:

Students arriving more than 15 minutes late may be marked Absent for that period. 3 unexcused tardies will result in 1 absence. Excused absence includes illness, injury, family emergency, or other circumstances beyond the student’s control and documentation may be required. Unexcused absences are any absences without prior notice or acceptable documentation. Students must notify the school at least 1 hour before their scheduled start time if they will be late or absent.*All students must clock in and out personally, no one may clock in for another student*

Disciplinary Action:

Students who fail to maintain attendance or violate school rules may be placed on probation, suspended, or dismissed. Reinstalment after termination is at the discretion of the School Director.
